Maybe they have scammed using their name, but they called and asked for ss# and other personal information but would not verify a debt and nothing shows on my credit report.
Due to the nature of the correspondence, I was very nervous to call. I've been putting off a bank of America credit card debt since 2014 but I'm trying to rent a place and need this taken care of. I called today (2/6/19) and talked to Alexa. She was able to accept a settlement of about 70% of my original debt that was owed. I have until 2/25 (nineteen days) to pay. I asked what the process would be. She said they can take payment of check by mail, check by phone, or input my bank account info on their website. After the payment is made, they'll send notice to the courts and to BofA that the debt has been settled. BofA will send notice to me and to credit bureaus that the debt is settled. (When I called BofA to confirm, they said the opposite: that Nelson & Kennard would be the ones to report and that BofA would only receive the info. I told him N&K said it was the other was around. He shuffled some papers, stuttered a bit, and then said I was right. So, to everyone reading this, I think the best idea would be to keep calling N&K, and the credit card company until you receive notice in the mail that it's settled, and you check your credit report to make sure it's shown as settled.) We all agree that debt collectors are scumbags and should be ashamed of themselves for how they make their money. But it was my responsibility in the first place to pay the money I owe. The phone call with Alexa was much less painful than I thought it would be.

I didn’t know I owed money since it didn’t show on my credit. I got hit with a lawsuit, called to settle, and they took my bank info and payment but then sent it back the next day(my bank was confused they didn’t know how the money bounced back because it was taken and then it was returned ). I had to rush to the post office because they said the agreement would be canceled if I didn’t give proof of payment by mail. I sent a certified money order the same day, and about nine days later it was finally cashed. It was a lot of running around. I’m here doing my part you say I owe you, fine, I’ll pay what’s right but don’t make it so hard for me to pay you. The lady I spoke with on the phone was really helpful and tried her best to assist me, and I appreciate that. I’ll give 2 stars because, even though it was a hassle, they still worked with me and gave me a discount, that was nice of them, just be ready to keep calling every day until you get things resolved.

Worse company to deal with. I paid them the full settled amount. The mishandled the money, only paid portion the amount owed, lying saying I had insufficient funds, but refunded me the remaining money under false understanding. Now they refuse to accept accountability and want me to pay for their mistake. They will intentionally avoid contact and will do anything in their power to keep you in debt and not resolve anything

Set up a payment plan, gave all the payment info and date on when the money was to he withdrawn... waited, waited, waited and it was never withdrawn. Call this wonderful firm only to be told they "never got the payment info" you've got to be joking!!! I spend my entire break trying to contact them, usually on hold the entire time when after several days and calls, finally, FINALLY someone answers and I set up the plan and payments with all the routing and acct numbers, only to be told NOW they dont have it????? Are you joking me?????? For someone who wants my money so bad they sure want to make it hard for me to pay!
