With the protection given me by that letter, I was able to secure my employment, and address and undo inequities that had been placed on me. I contacted Urba Law a few years ago, after an incident at the office. There had been a pattern of discrimination and abuse for a while at my work place, and one of the managers didn't care a comment I made illustrating those conditions. I was affected by the verbal abuse & the failure of management to schedule status meetings & other reasonable concession, which were afforded to other employees. But I had resources to help me with that psychologically, although it wasn't easy. What I could NOT get past, was the feeling that I was helpless, and that management could do anything they wanted. And that maybe I was just a complainer, and was overblowing perfectly natural conditions that everyone has to deal with. My Urba rep helped with this. They gave me clear instructions on what NOT to do, like being combative or threatening my managers with Union or Legal retribution. Just continue documenting everything, don't be sarcastic at the office, try to stay calm. Incidentally, the Union was of NO help at all, in dealing with this. Sometimes, you need an outside resource like Urba to advocate for you. Unions are not a substitute for this kind of service. I live in NY State, which is very accommodating when it comes to allowing recordings, so I took advantage of that. I documented everything, and Urba helped guide me on how to do that. I made it through the rest of my time at this corruptly run agency, and have been happily employed & appreciated at my current position for the past several years. I don't know what I would have done, how sick I would have gotten, without the advice from Urba Law. One VERY important piece of advice, was to test for Autism. This has never occurred to me previously, but would explain many of the experiences in my life. Turned out Urba's instincts were exactly correct.
